Biography
Gaynor Gowman is a passionate and dynamic professional freelance oboist and cor anglais player based in Glasgow.
She graduated in 2020 from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a first class Master of Performance.

Gaynor has a strong international profile, dual national, she was trained throughout Europe. This allowed her to graduate in 2018 simultaneously with a Bachelor of Arts from the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, Switzerland, and with a “Diplôme de Perfectionnement” in cor anglais from the Paris Conservatoire in France.
Gaynor was selected to participate to international masterclasses in Itlay, Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, the UK and Hungary receiving the teaching of the most talented oboists such as D.Carmel, N.Daniel, A.Garner, F.Leleux, , M.Pastor, L.Lencsès, C.Schmitt, O.Stanckiewicz, J.Tys, G.Witt, D. Wollenweber etc.

As a freelance musician and a well-rounded qualified musician, Gaynor devotes her time to all aspects of the profession: orchestra, chamber music and teaching.
​
Former winner of apprenticeships at the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Gaynor’s skill have been rewarded with the opportunity to be an extra player with Scottish Opera (2018-2021), the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (since 2019), the Scottish Ballet (since 2021), the London Concertante (since 2022) and has been added in 2021 to the BBC SSO and the Hallé Orcestra extra players list. Gaynor was also principal cor anglais doubling oboe in 2019 with the Scottish Concert Orchestra.
Gaynor’s orchestra experience also includes working abroad with summer festivals. In 2021 she was in Javéa, Spain playing alongside musicians from Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Berlin orchestras. In 2019 she toured across Russia and the UK as principal cor anglais doubling oboe with the Britten-Shotstakovitch Festival Orchestra. And in 2018 she was principal oboe doubling cor anglais in Lerici, Italy with the Orchestra Excellence.

International orchestra experiences started during Gaynor’s studies where she was a member of international youth orchestras such as the Kodaly Zoltan World Youth Orchestra, die Junge Deutsch-Ungarische-Französische Philharmonie, and l’Orchestre Sostenuto.

Gaynor attaches importance to promoting exchanges and sharing experiences: she therefore dedicates time to chamber music and teaching alongside her orchestral activities.
​
Her skills for chamber music have been rewarded by several prizes such as the Lions Club-Societe Generale Prix in 2014 and a third Prize at the Governor's Chamber Music Competition in 2019.
Gaynor was a founding member of the Cue Quintet as well as a trio for tenor voice, cor anglais and piano. With her groups which performed between 2016 and 2020,
During the Covid Pandemic, the Tree O' Reed was founded by Gaynor and her friends. The trio joined Live Music Now in January 2022 and performs accross Scotland to promote and bring music to people.
Gaynor has had the opportunity to do professional recordings as well as working with living composers with her various chamber music ensembles.

In 2018, Gaynor played the Poulenc sextet with the SCO Wind Soloists and between 2018 and 2021, Gaynor performed in international Festivals as a chamber musician in Italy, Russia and Spain.
In 2019, Gaynor was invited to perform at the Aberdeen Sound Festival. She show-cased the oboe in contemporary music in workshops for children and adults and performed in a concert sharing the stage with oboist Nicholas Daniel.
In 2022, the Tree O'Reeds joined Live Music Now performing in various settings accross Scotland bringing music to people.

Teaching is essential to Gaynor as she wishes to share her love for music with others. Gaynor has a private oboe class spread out across the UK teaching children from 8 to over 70, beginners to Diploma level!
Gaynor obtained in 2019 the DipABRSM teaching diploma and followed 2 CPD courses in teaching during the pandemic (both passed with 100% score!)
Gaynor is a cover musician with Sistema Scotland since January 2020 and a Music tutor for Glasgow Tutors since August 2020. She also joined the Instrumental Music Service of the City of Edinburgh Council in 2022 teaching children accross various primary and secondary schools.
Gaynor was also appointed in Janaury 2023 as an oboe tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland working for the musical theatre department undergraduate course.
As a former biology student, Gaynor has an interest for research and published in July 2018 a paper on health related to musical practice.
Gaynor was generously supported by the ABRSM, the Southsquare trust and received the Burns Shearer Awards durng her studies.
